Hakomotokan in Yamatokōriyama
A few
months back while riding through Yamatokōriyama, just south of Nara city,
I came across an area called "Konya machi". Although I have ridden
through there many times, I had never stopped to really check out what was in
that area. That day I noticed a shop there named Hakomotokan which was located
inside an old restored Edo period
building. What I was soon to find out
was that this shop was used for dyeing cloth, and that this area had a history
of cloth dyeing that dated back to
the 1500’s. Unfortunately I arrived to
late to try their workshop, but it is very close, so I will be back !
